Theodore J. Fox “Jerry” passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Allegiance Hospice Home of Jackson with his daughters at his side.

Jerry was a lifelong resident of Jackson, Michigan. He was born on August 18, 1935 to Leo and Dorothy (Schmiedicke) Fox. He attended St. Mary High School and graduated in 1954. In 1958, Jerry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. While in the Marines, he studied at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Millington, TN, where he trained to be an Aviation Electronics Technician. His military service included working as a recording engineer for Armed Forces Radio, and serving as a Turnkey for the 1st Marine Air Wing Brig. 15 months of this service was in Iwakuni, Japan. His time in the Marine Corps was an experience he always treasured and loved to discuss. He was honorably discharged in 1961.

After his service, Jerry returned to Jackson and worked for Clark Equipment Company for 28 years. He was one of the last employees still working when the plant closed and left Jackson in 1983.

Jerry married the love of his life, Nancy (Clarke), on October 24, 1970. They were married for 25 years before Nancy predeceased him in 1996.

Jerry was also preceded in death by his parents, Jackson Fire Chief Leo M. Fox and Dorothy Fox, his sister, Mary Ellen Brzezinski, his brother, Robert L. Fox, and his nephews, Lawrence Brzezinski and Michael Fox.

He is survived by his two daughters and their spouses: Marie and Rob Skrobola and Lisa and Jake Silvis, his 7 grandchildren: Jacob, Jesse, Cody, Robert, Peter, Abigail, and Mary Clare, and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was an avid reader, an excellent cook, and was always a seeker after knowledge. His travels as a Marine fostered his love of history, world affairs, and politics. However, his first passion was for his home state of Michigan and his home city of Jackson. There was never any question about our beautiful state that Jerry couldn’t answer, and he was thrilled to recount his visits to the many amazing places Michigan has to offer. It was always a pleasure to hear the myriad ways that Jerry and the Fox family were part of the rich history of Jackson. Whether it was blacksmithing or firefighting, he could tell you how his father and grandfather served the city of Jackson for the last 100 years.

Most importantly, Jerry loved and was greatly loved in return by his family. He was an affectionate and fun Uncle Jerry to his nieces and nephews, a fantastic father to his daughters, and a much-hugged grandpa to his grandkids. We will always miss his wry sense of humor, his stories, his gruff curmudgeon face that he would break out on occasion, and most of all, his incredibly generous heart.

The family will receive friends at the Desnoyer Funeral Home on Friday, September 14 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00 PM.

On Saturday, September 15 there will be a brief Prayer Service at the Desnoyer Funeral Home at 9:30 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 10:00 AM with Reverend Father Richard Eberle O.S.F.S. as the Celebrant. Interment will take place at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Jackson.

Contributions may be made in Jerry’s name to St. Mary Star of the Sea window restoration or to the Allegiance Hospice Home.
