Services honoring the life of Elvin Earl "Monk" Brown will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 31, 2018 at Hayhurst Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family there to receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Elvin was born on December 5, 1933 in Wallace, North Carolina to Oakley and Laura (Rackley) Brown. Elvin passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at the age of 84.
Elvin graduated from high school and attended college before enlisting in the United States Army where he faithfully served until his honorable discharge. Elvin worked in the construction industry as a contract engineer.
Elvin married Marie Skipper on March 10, 1957. Their union was blessed with two children. Elvin was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He adored his family and loved spending time with them. In his free time Elvin also liked going to the lake. He was a talented carpenter and could build just about anything.
