Maria Julia Garza Pineda, 85, of Caldwell went to see her Heavenly Father on Sunday, September 6, 2018 at her home surrounded by family and friends.

Mass of a Christian burial will be performed on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 10 a.m. in the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Bernard Hung as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 5 to 8 pm with a rosary recited at 7 pm.

Maria Julia Garza was born in George West, Texas on November 22, 1932 to parents, Pascual and Eluteria (Silvera) Garza. Maria married Esteban Pineda on November 9, 1954 in Littlefield, Texas.

Maria loved to sit outside on her front porch waiting for her children and grandchildren to stop by. When they did she would make them their favorite dish. She enjoyed cooking andd always had food in her kitchen for family and friends. Sundays after church her house was the gathering place for her niecess and nephews.

She enjoyed to quilt and cross stitch and also enjoyed to listen to music and dance in her younger years. She was well known throughout the town as the Tamale Lady. Maria made the best refried beans you ever had. It will never be Good-bye but "Que Dios Te Bendiga" her favorite saying...

Maria was preceded in death by her loving husband, Esteban Pineda; a daughter, Eva Torres; sons, Cruz Garza Pineda and Adam Leal; a grandson, Clayton R. Pineda; and great-grandson, Joshua Batiste.

She is survived by her sons, Joe Pineda and wife, Paula, Ruben Pineda and wife, Ellen, Rudy Pineda and wife, Yvonne Mitchell and Enrique Pineda Sr.; her daughters, Mary Carillo and Tomas Navarro, Janie Luna and husband, Moses, Sylvia Menjivar and husband, Cruz, Yolanda Arteaga and husband, Jose and Dianne Covington and husband, Sonny; a brother, Cesar "Charlie" Garza; grandchildren, Pete Anthony Ybanez, Jose Arteaga, Jr., LaQuinton Daniels, Enrique Pineda, Jr., Esteban Campos, Christopher Campos, Rosemary Martinez, Michelle Ybanez Culp and husband, Robert, Donna Ybanez Castillo and husband, Gilbert, Monica Ybanez Serna and husband, Angel, Lisa Martinez, Angie Martinez Zamora and husband, Cirilo, Chasiti Pineda Pecos, Catina Pineda, Cassanda Pineda, Tiffany Campos and Derrin Hall, Elizabeth Pineda, Brandy Burch, Rachel Vega Jackson and husband, Maurice, Bethany Covington, Ashley Garcia Feazell and husband, Nick, Drelle Jenkins, Sandy Torres Guzman and husband, Anthony, Sandra Torres Guerro and husband, Michael, Liza Torres, Kimberlee Arteaga Sepulveda and husband, Arturo, Yolanda Leal, Stephanie Pineda and Rondi Jenkins Prowell and husband, Randall; special niece, Agraphina Pineda Sanchez; fifty eight great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
