Alex Van Jim, 61, died Saturday, December 6, 2008, in Tuba City, Arizona.

Mr. Jim was born December 19, 1946, in Cow Springs, Arizona. His maternal clan was Black Streak Mountain People, and his paternal clan was Tobacco People Red Running into Water.

One of the original "Page Pioneers", Alex attended Page Accommodation Schools with his older brother, Eddie John Jim, Sr. (born 27 Jun 1940) of Tuba City, AZ, who was Class of '62 in 1957-58. Alex' age puts him in Class of '64. Neither brother appears in any yearbooks. Freddy Footracer '63 & Larry Collins '62 remember attending school in Page with them.

Alex served in the U.S. Marine Corps, enlisting 18 Apr 1968 and released 18 Feb 1970, and he was a welder by trade as was his brother, Eddie.

Mr. Jim is survived by his wife Ramona Jim; daughter Armanda Jim; sons Elliott and Abrel Jim; stepson Marc "Craig" Copeland; five grandchildren; father, Paul Bluelake Jim; sisters, Mary Baloo, Hannah Yazzie, Debbie Seweingyawma, Reva Crowell and Alma Jim; and brothers, Eddie, Robert, Ross and Eugene Jim.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty (Whiterock) Jim, born 15 or 30 Jun 1922 or 1923, Cow Springs, AZ; died 24 Feb 1998, Tuba City, AZ; Parents: Billy & Sarah Whiterock. SSN issued in Utah before 1956.

Services were Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Desert Memorial Funeral Home in Tuba City.
