Jack Warren Chin, age 93, resident of Fairhope, AL passed away peacefully Thursday, September 6, 2018, surrounded by family. Jack was born in Mobile, AL on Christmas Day 1924, the second of two sons and three daughters of Rose and Tom Chin. Rose loved to tell his birth story every year and we all agree that he was the best gift ever! He was a basketball star in his youth and graduated from Murphy High School and then Tulane University of Louisiana College of Engineering. Jack served as a Naval Officer during World War II aboard the USS Fargo, part of the New York Group’s 16th Fleet. After the war, he returned to Mobile to successfully run the Chin family’s local business, marry the love of his life, Dorothy Moy, whom he met in Philadelphia during the war and raise a family. Jack was an active member of his community, participating in the Mobile Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau, among other organizations. He was a charter member of the Skyline Country Club in West Mobile and enjoyed playing golf at the club, eating fried chicken and fried catfish and finishing almost every evening with a bowl of ice cream. He also liked hosting game nights and telling jokes. Jack loved ballroom dancing and could often be found at regional dances, gliding across the dance floor with a lucky lady. He adored his wife completely, loved his two sons, inspired his two granddaughters and spoiled his five great grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as Poppy. Jack was known to all as a gentleman who always had a welcome smile and quick wit. He always put others needs first, never spoke ill of another – his glass was always at least half full. He lived in the moment with grace and contentment. Even in his final weeks, he was calm and kind, always with a smile on his face. He left this earth as peaceful as he lived it! He is survived by his two sisters, Rose Marie and Betty Jean, his two sons, Thomas Chin, Richard Chin and his wife Mollie, his two granddaughters Kimberly and Cristen, his five great grandchildren Maya, Jack, Roman, Jasmine and India, numerous nieces and nephews, other loving relatives and friends. A Christian burial service will be celebrated by his family and internment will follow at the Chin family burial plot at Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile, AL.
