Jon "Birdeye" West, 74 of Crystal Falls, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Marquette General Hospital. He was born on July 31, 1940 in Crystal Falls, son of the late Elof and Elna (Maki) West. He attended school in Crystal Falls, graduating from Crystal Falls High School in 1958. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy on July 21, 1958 and was honorably discharged on July 20, 1964. Jon worked as an Inspector for MDOT (Michigan Department of Transportation) until his retirement.
Jon was a lifelong resident of the area. He loved fishing and trapping. He enjoyed his trips out West pheasant hunting, and fishing trips to Canada with friends. The Spring time was a highlight for another reason, the NCAA Tournament and pool, he just loved it. In the heat of the moment with family and friends Jon could be heard saying, "I may have gotten a little excited!"
Jon is survived by his granddaughter, Kirsten Menghini of Antioch, TN and grandson, Nicholas Menghini of Augusta, Maine; he was preceded in death by a daughter, Renee West.
At Jon's request there will be no funeral service.
