Clarence "Sonny" Warren Dennis Jr., 84 of Locke, NY died on Saturday, September 8, 2018 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. Clarence was born April 8, 1934 in DeRuyter, NY, the son of the late Clarence Warren Dennis Sr. and Gladys Dennis Ellis.
Clarence graduated from Fabius Central School in 1953. He married his longtime sweetheart Marion Delores DeVaul and was a lifelong farmer. He was also a former employee of Empire Soils and retired in 1988.
Sonny enjoyed gardening and working in his flower beds. He also loved traveling with his wife Marion and had visited 47 States. He enjoyed going to "meeting of the minds" in Fabius with some of his dearest friends and classmates. He was an avid SU basketball fan and had season tickets, with his son Steve, since the Dome opened. He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church of Locke and Moravia, and the United Methodist Men's Club. He served on teams with "Closer Walk", and wrote and delivered heartfelt Eulogies for several of his family members.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, the former Marion DeVaul; a son, Stephan (Vicki) Dennis of Moravia; 3 daughters: Sheree Mason of Scipio Center, Cynthia (Tom) Hamilton, of Genoa and Brenda Dennis of Locke. Clarence is survived by 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, a brother, Richard (Barbara) Dennis of New Woodstock, and a sister, Kareen Bready of Liverpool, other special family members, Chanh, (Quy) Truong, of PA, and Tan Truong of Texas. Clarence was predeceased by his parents, 5 sisters: Helen Davis, Ruth Fuller, Betty Bailey, Genevieve Duca, Barbara Wood Farley, and a brother, Van Dennis. Clarence is also leaving behind several of his lifetime school friends and an extended Church family.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 4-7p.m. in the United Methodist Church of Moravia, 36 Church St., Moravia, NY. Services will be conducted on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in church. Burial will be in Fabius Evergreen Cemetery, Fabius, NY.
