Norman F. Watts, age 81, of Media and formerly of Millville, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at his residence. Norman had been a resident of his home in Media for more than 50 years.

He was born on Saturday, June 5, 1937, in Williamsport, a son of the late John H. and Grace (Gower) Watts. Throughout his younger years, Norman attended the Millville-area schools, and later graduated from Millville High School in 1955.

As a youngster, Norman earned his Eagle Scout badge with the B.S.A. Norman expanded his education by attending Bloomsburg University, receiving a BS degree in 1959 and an MA degree in 1966.

He faithfully served with the U.S. Army during the 1960s with the Civil Affairs Unit for the island of Cypress. For more than 30 years, Norman was a teacher at Upper Darby High School, where he taught economics, government, criminal justice, business management, stock market projects and various other business subjects. Norman was the owner of Watts Investments for 50 years, beginning in 1968, and was featured in Forbes Magazine in 2014, as well as a 5 Star Wealth Manager in Philadelphia Magazine. Norman was a past president of Central Delaware County Rotary Club; a member of the Rotary Club of Wayne; past president of the Upper Darby Township Square Club; member of Gundaker Foundation; a member of Greenwood Valley Hunting Club; Lansdowne Masonic Lodge No. 711 F&AM; Salvation Army Advisory Board of the Chester Corp., and the American Legion Post No. 564 of Millville.

Norman started the Millville Community Foundation Inc. in 2012 that is dedicated to supporting grassroots organizations benefiting Millville. He was the founder of Watts Investments Research Center of Bloomsburg University and the Julie A. Watts & Norman F. Watts Charitable Remainder Unitrust scholarships. He enjoyed spending his time dancing, hunting, fishing, playing golf, sports, and playing poker. Norman traveled the world with his wife, Julie; he loved the Fourth of July and the Millville carnival. He was known for saying “It is what it is.”

In addition to his parents, Norman was also preceded by his loving wife, the former Julie Ann (Hoffman), in 2005; a daughter, Laura Watts, in 1981; a sister, Sarah “Sally” Roberts, in 2018; and a brother, John Lloyd Watts, in 2013. He was the last member of his immediate family.

Survivors include four nieces: Lori Roberts, Juli Roberts, Cheryl Watts and Linda Watts.

A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cavanagh-Patterson Family Funeral Homes Inc., 43 E. Baltimore Ave., Media, Pa. Masonic services will be provided by the Lansdowne Lodge No. 711 F&AM at 8 p.m. Friends and family will also be received on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Allen Funeral Home Inc., 107 W. Main at Railroad streets, Millville. Masonic services will be provided by Oriental Lodge No. 460 F&AM, Orangeville, at 11 a.m.

Graveside committal services will immediately follow in the Millville Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by combined V.F.W. and American Legion groups.

The Allen Funeral Home Inc., 107 W. Main St., Millville, is honored to be serving the Watts family.
