Donna Jean Bowen, age 86, of Quincy died peacefully on September 9, 2018 at 3:15 am in her home.

Born November 16, 1931 in Quincy, Donna was the daughter of Oscar Frederick and Lisette Magdelene Louise Bachmann Eggeson.

Donna was a 1949 graduate of Quincy High School. She received her Bachelor Degree from Western Illinois University in 1953 and her Master’s in 1973 from Illinois State University, Bloomington-Normal. Donna retired in 1981 from teaching Special Education in the Quincy Public Schools and then taught homebound students for several years. She was active in Delta Kappa Gamma and Illinois Retired Teachers Association.

In addition, she volunteered her time and skills to support children and their families in CASA. She was a charter member of St. John’s Anglican Cathedral and was a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher. Donna was also a member of the church’s Altar Guild.

Donna was an adventurous woman and enjoyed traveling the world. Her travels took her to five continents and, at last count, 42 countries.

Donna was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Survivors include two sons, Michael R. Bowen and wife Tina of Michigan City, IN, Wesley J. Bowen and wife Kathryn of Albuquerque, NM; two daughters, Denise E. Bowen of St. Louis, MO and Kathleen S. Haughey of Quincy; grandchildren Christopher Bowen and Katie Bowen, both of Crown Point, IN, Kelley Knickmeyer and husband Tony of St. Louis, MO and Justin Haughey of Quincy; great-granchildren, Christopher Knickmeyer and Megan Knickmeyer, both of St. Louis, MO; step-grandson, Daniel Fowler and wife Alisha and step-great-grandchildren Brianna, Benea, Bayley, Ruby, and Daniel; 2 nieces, Marcia Nordgren and Susan Cockerham; 2 nephews, Jimmy Nordgren and Jeffrey Nordgren; and several cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Betty Nordgren; two brothers, Neal Eggeson and Oscar Eggeson, Jr.; and two children, Matthew D. Bowen and Carolyn G. Bowen.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to her caregivers from Carelink Home Health and Unity Point Home/Hospice Care, her many friends, and her church family for their visits, cards, prayers, and support.

Services: 10:00 am on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at St. John’s Anglican Cathedral.

Burial: Greenmount Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois

Visitation: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Anglican Cathedral or to Carelink Home Health (Christian Horizons) a faith-based not-for-profit.
