Garry C. Schaad passed away September 5, 2018 at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood, WA at the age of 74. He was born May 24, 1944 in Salem, Oregon to Lawrence and Patricia Schaad.


He served his country in Vietnam as a Staff Sgt in the Army for 1 tour and the Air Force for 1 tour. He was a highly decorated veteran. After returning home, he worked at Fort Lewis and became Head Grounds Keeper. Never one to stop working, he also had his own logging and firewood business. He had a love for outdoors and felt closer to God in the woods. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.


He is preceded in death by his parents; and his stepdaughter Wanda Jo Drury.


He is survived by his loving wife, Laura; 3 children William (Bill) Hill, Melanie Adams, and Matthew Schaad-Snow; 3 stepdaughters Laurie A. Newton, Kandy L. Ojeda-Vasquez; his sister Carol O'gara of Aurora, OR and his brother William (Bill) Schaad of Pendleton, OR. He is a proud grandpa of 14 and a great-grandpa of 9. He loved his family dearly.


A Celebration of Life will be held at Fir Lane Memorial Park on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 2pm. In his honor, please dress casually and write down a memory for sharing. He will be laid to rest with his family at Aurora Community Cemetery in Aurora, OR.


In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Paralyzed Veterans of America. The family also asks that people pass along kindness in his memory, as Garry always had a hand out for those in need. Garry will be greatly missed by family, friends, and his dog Foxy.
