Roger Lee Burns, 74, of Chaplin, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at his residence. He was born Dec. 17, 1943, in Nelson County to the late Carl and Ruth Shields Burns. He retired from General Electric with 37 years of service. He recently retired from Houghlin Funeral Home after 20 years. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Chaplin Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, a former member of Nelson County Planning and Zoning, and was a member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge #57 F&AM where he was a past Master.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Travis Burns. He is survived by his wife, Judy Hood Burns; one daughter, Rhonda (Pete) Ciarlante of Chaplin; one son, Lynn (Kellie) Burns of Chaplin; one sister, Janet (Thomas) Clark of Bardstown; four grandchildren, Scarlett Burns, Emily, Corey, Eric Ciarlante; four great-grandchildren. The funeral is 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at the Chaplin Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Thompson officiating. Burial is in Highview Cemetery. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018, at the Houghlin Funeral Home in Bloomfield and 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Chaplin Baptist Church. A Masonic memorial service is 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contribution to Gideons International or Hospice of Nelson County. The Houghlin Funeral Home of Bloomfield is in charge of arrangement
