Vocalist. He was a member of the Traditional Pop group "The Hilltoppers." During the ensemble's existence, they notched nine Top 10 hits on the American record charts. While attending Western Kentucky University, where he played collegiate basketball, McGuire (bass) formed The Hilltoppers, along with Jimmy Sacca (lead vocalist), Seymour Spiegelman and later Billy Vaughn. He served with the United States Army and following his discharge, the group secured a record contract with the Dot label and scored their first hit with "Trying" (1952), which earned a number seven placing on the charts. This was followed with the Top Ten hits "I'd Rather Die Young (Than Grow Old Without You)" (1953), "P.S. I Love You" (1953), "Love Walked In" (1953), "To Be Alone" (1953), "Till Then" (1953), "From the Vine Came the Grape" (1953), "Only You (And You Alone)" (1955) and "Marianne" (1956). During the height of their popularity, they performed on such programs as "The Steve Allen Show" and "The Ed Sullivan Show." After leaving the entertainment industry, McGuire worked in real estate.
