Mishicot - Glenn W. Nelson, age 79, a Mishicot resident, passed away at a local hospital with his family by his side on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Glenn was born in Green Bay on April 7, 1939 to the late Harvey and Myrtle (Rollin) Nelson. He married Rose Marie Alsteen on November 28, 1959 in Tonet, WI and celebrated 58 years of marriage. Glenn will be deeply missed by his beloved wife: Rose Marie, his children: Glenn Jr. (Deb) Nelson, of Oshkosh, Michael (Brenda) Nelson, of Neenah, Susan Sprackling, of Sparta, Kim (John) Gualtieri, of Stillwater, MN, Greg (Rose) Nelson, of Slinger, and by his cherished grandchildren: Bryce (Kelley), Ryan (Kelsey), Carley, Lucas, Casey, Ben, Michaela, Austin, Alec, Grace, Alex, Alden, and by his mother-in-law: Ida Alsteen, of Luxemburg, In addition to his parents, Glenn was also preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law: Elizabeth "Bette" and Donald Delvoye, and an infant sister: Patricia and by his father-in-law: James Alsteen.

Glenn received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from St. Norbert College and a Master of Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He earned credits beyond his degrees from VanderCook College of Music, Chicago, UW-Madison and UW-Green Bay. He began his teaching in Mishicot in 1962 where he and his wife Rose made their home. In 1988 he was selected Teacher of the Year by the Mishicot High School Staff. He retired from teaching in 2000 after 38 years as an instrumental music instructor. Following his passion for music and to continue on his legacy, many of his former students, his son, and his grandson have made music their profession. Glenn was not only a teacher but enjoyed performing. It was not unusual to see a tuba or a string bass in his home. He was a member of the Green Bay Packer Band for 11 years, played in various dance bands and was a member of the Lakeshore Wind Ensemble where he received the Wesley Teply Award in 2007. Glenn was a 55-year member of the Two Rivers Municipal Band where he played tuba and was assistant conductor for 19 years and was conductor until he recently retired in 2017. He was a 64-year member of the American Federation of Musicians. Glenn enjoyed volunteering at the Capital Civic Centre and Silver Lake College. He was a faithful member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot where he was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the church funeral choir.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Mishicot with the Reverend Tom Reynebeau officiating, with burial to follow in the Holy Cross Parish Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home, 344 So. State St. in Mishicot from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday. There will be a 7:00 p.m. parish wake service Monday at the funeral home led by Deacon David Scheuer.
