GOD, WE PUT OUR TRUST
On Monday, September 4,2018, at the Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, the Rev. Dr. Robert Louis Jeffries transitioned from his earthly home to his beautiful mansion prepared for him. Rev. Dr. Jeffries was the 6th child born to the late Mr. John and Mrs. Irene Smith-Jeffries in Tyler, Texas. He was a man of intelligence, caring and most of all dignity.

He strived for perfection in all capacities. He loved working with youth and elderly people. Graciously at the age of 17 he announced his calling to the ministry. Not being one to ignore responsibilities, he diligently strived to reach the top perfection according to God's will.

He graduated from High School, in Tyler Texas, 1956 . He received his B.5 Degree from Butler College. He continued his work in the ministry as directed by God. He returned to College at Turner's Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia ,where he received his Master's Degree. He became Pastor of several A.M.E. churches in East Texas.

Later he moved to Houston,Texas he worked at the San Jacinto Battle Ground and later with the Houston Housing Authority. In 1979, he was assigned to Pastor Reedy Chapel A.M.E. Church in Galveston,Texas. To him this was quite an honor to Pastor the first Black AME Church in Texas. He worked untiringly throughout his tenure to keep Reedy alive and strong. His mission was accomplished he remained Pastor there for 18 years.

He had worked previously with the Houston Housing Authority ,therefore, he was transferred to the Galveston Housing Authority. What a blessing. In Galveston he immediately recognized a need for children who lived in the Housing Projects. He was extremely happy to have volunteers to assist him in organizing Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops for the first time in history, GHA was most successful in this endeavor under his leadership and guidance.

Rev. Dr. Jeffries has received many awards and plaques along with recognition for his service that he was instrumental in, acquiring most throughout his assignments. In the year 2000 he was still desirous of furthering his education. He said he was taught to reach the top of every mountain. He returned to College and received his Doctorate Degree in Theology.

Preceding him in death were his parents, grandparents, two sisters Mrs. Venerah Jones and Mrs. Ruthie Kindle, three brothers, Johnny Jeffries, Dan Jeffries and Eguene Jeffries, all of Tyler ,Texas.

He leaves to mourn his death: his devoted wife, Dr. Mayme S Jeffries; one brother ,Harvey Jeffries of Austin,TX; surrogate son, Eric Temple of Anarbor, Michigan;his nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and many souls he has touch over the years.
As he would say:

NOW UNTO HIM WHO IS ABLE TO KEEP YOU FROM FALLING AND PRESENT YOU FAULTLESS BEFORE THE THRONE OF GRACE OMININESCENT, TO THE ONLY TRUE OMINIPATENT AND OMNIPRESENT GOD DO WE COMMIT OUR TRUST, IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER, SON, AND THE HOLY GHOST. AME
