He was a junior high/high school, science and math teacher. He grew up in Preston, Kansas and was a graduate of Preston High School. He attended Pratt Junior College and was a graduate of Emporia Sate College. He taught school in Pratt, Canton, Sun City and Poway, CA. He taught at Victoria High School for ten years then, when to Otis-Bison, Arkansas and Texas where he retired in May of 2000. While teaching at Victoria he also coached freshman football, drove the activity bus and school bus. He moved back the Hays area in 2000.
Survivors include one son, David W. Boggs, Topeka, KS; one daughter, Teresa M. Gross and husband, Scott J. Hays, KS; three grandchildren, C J Hathaway and husband, Joseph, Boston, MA; Sophia Rose Gross and Juliet Anne Gross both of Hays.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one brother, Lauren Merle Boggs; two sisters, Iva Lu Harrison and Caroline Stalcup.
A private family service and inurnment will be at a later date.
The family suggests memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, The Nature Conservancy or UNICEF in care of the mortuary.
