John F. Shumaker, 81, of Topeka, KS, passed away September 7, 2018 at his home. He was born March 10, 1937 in Sabetha, KS the son of Chester H. “Taters” and Emma (Erhardt) Shumaker.

John graduated from Wetmore High School in 1955. He also attended Kansas State University and later graduated from Washburn University in 1959 with an Accounting Degree. He worked for Mizehouser Accounting and as an office manager for Hamm Quarries. He retired from the State of Kansas as a tax auditor after 20 years.

John married JoAnn Eileen Holland on April 20, 1957 in Centralia, KS. They celebrated 61 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife of the home, a son, a daughter, a sister, 4 grandchildren, one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Shumaker and an infant sister, Bertha Shumaker.

Graveside Service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the Wetmore Cemetery. Family will greet friends 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to the Helping Hands Humane Society c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
