George had a joint funeral with his father-in-law, Fred Lee Gardner, a lifelong resident of Dennysville. They both died on the same date. George was a mason.
Both he and his father-in-law were buried in the Gardner family lot in Dennysville.
The stone reads bur Fairfield at the bottom of the stone, no indication of that was George or Edith but I believe it was Edith based upon the funeral info above. Stone has dates for both and a flag has been placed on his grave. Edith died in Waterville, Maine 7.20.1975 and was survived by a son, George Merriam Jr.
