Doris Jean Leach Stratton Bowen

She was born November 8, 1921, in McKinney, Texas in Collin County, just north of Dallas.

She is survived by Carlotta Brown Edward and Sachiko Stratton and Gary Stratton. Her seven grandchildren includes Sheila Wooden, Kenny Stratton, Tammy, Darlia, Richard, Kenji Stratton and Laran O’Neill. She had 15 great grandchildren and great great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband John Bowen and a daughter, Mia Carmen.

Many people in the commercial and residential construction and remodeling business knew Jean Bowen because she owned and operated the Designer’s Workroom since 1956. Most home designers knew Jean on a first name basis. she was known throughout the United States for her near perfect drapers, bedspreads and other accessories.

She came to Lazybrook Baptist Church in the spring of 1979 and quickly made her way to the kitchen where most of us enjoyed many of her outstanding meals. She also planned and led trips to the Holy Land, ands was quite proficient at solving any problems that arose at the international borders and elsewhere.

She had a great love for her friends, pastors and for the elderly of the church. she particularly loved hosting and feeding evangelists (which Mike Huckabee before he was governor of Arkansas) in her home. She fed everybody. The more the merrier.

A memorial and Celebration of life service was held at Lazybrook Baptist Church in Houston on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11: 00 a.m.. Dr. Joseph K. (J.K.) Minton (a longtime friend) conducted the service.

Jean lived to be 96 years, 9 months and 9 days old.

Jean was cremated.
