Jackson, Royce On Thursday, September 6, 2018, Royce Jackson passed away at the age of 51 after a long and courageous fight with cancer.
Royce was born on March 30, 1967 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Roger and Patricia (Schiltz) Jackson. Royce's enthusiasm for the performing arts and dance in particular was cemented early in his career when he attended Gustavus Adolphus College, and received his B.A. Degree in Theater in 1989. This enthusiasm turned to passion during his studies at Purdue University where he received his M.F.A. in Theater - Technical Production in 1992.
He worked with a number of small dance companies as a Freelance Lighting Designer and Stage Manager in the Minneapolis area, and went on tours across Minnesota and outstate. He was a member of I.A.T.S.E. Local 13, and worked at various venues in the Minneapolis area. His love of working with theaters brought him to the Great American History Theater and the Guthrie Theater. And the last 5 years he worked as Technical Director/Lead Carpenter at The Cowles Center for Dance and Performing Arts.
Royce will forever be remembered by his wife and best friend Jayme Masek, step-children Jordan Vandervelde and Max Vandervelde, his mother Patricia Stearns, and his brother Bentley (Nicole) Jackson. Royce will also be remembered by stepbrothers Ken Stearns, Bill Stearns, and John Stearns, nephew Nolan Jackson, extended family, and dear friends.
Royce was predeceased in death by his father Roger Jackson and stepfather Eugene Stearns.
A Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 10:30 AM, at The Cowles Center, 528 Hennepin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55403.
