Howard Leon Gibson, age 98, died Wednesday morning, September 5, 2018 at 8:16 a.m. at Superior Home Care and Rehabilitation in Paducah, KY. Mr. Gibson was born January 17, 1920 to his parents Guy Leland and Ora Belle Gibson. He is survived by one son Terry Dean Gibson ( Patricia Terrell) of Evansville, Indiana; one brother Guy Norman Gibson (Pat) of Kevil, KY; three grandsons; Kevin Gibson of Evansville, Indiana, Brian T. Gibson of Fleming Island, Florida and DVM Daniel K. Everett of Kevil, KY. Seven great grandchildren; Amy Gibson Howard, Dr. Ashley Gibson, Hanna Gibson, Halle Gibson , Ella Gibson, Daniel Alan Everett and Anna Grace Everett. Leon was preceded in death by his wife; Alma Leona Gibson, one daughter; Carol Ann Everett, one sister Claribel Throgmorton and his parents Guy Leland and Ora Belle Gibson. He was a member of Newton Creek Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for 62 years. At the time of his death he was the oldest living male Heath High School Graduate. He farmed for many years and raised Angus Cattle. He was a member of North Ballard Masonic Lodge # 537 for over 70 years. He retired from Union Carbide after 28 years of service. Leon was a member of the McCracken School Board from 1957-1965. Visitation will be Monday Evening, September 10, 2018 after 5:00 p.m. at Morrow Funeral Chapel in LaCenter, KY. Masonic Services will be Monday Evening at 7:00 p.m. There will also be visitation at Newton Creek Baptist Church Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until Funeral time at 1:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Newton Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Cude officiating. Music selections by Jason and Lynne Woolsey and Dr. Larry T. Lewis. Interment will follow at Newton Creek Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Newton Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund 12800 Ogden Landing Road Kevil, KY 42053. A Special thank-you to the staff at Superior Care for the compassionate care they gave Leon for the past 5 ½ years.
