Born in Powell, Ohio to the late George Ullysses and Ida Marie Hyland, George Ellwood Hyland, 86, of Plain City, formerly of Hilliard, died suddenly in Doctors West Hospital on Thursday, July 20, 2996.

A World War II Army Veteran, he earned the Meritorious Unit Award, serving as a technical sergeant for the 746th Railroad Operation Battalion in Central Europe and the Rhineland from 1944 to 1946.

Retired from General Motors after 19 years as a tool and die maker and North American Aviation after 12 years of employment. He was a member of the Urania Lodge 311 F&AM of Plain City and the Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus. Past Commander of the Darby Post No. 3268 of Plain City, where he was a very active member for many years.

Along with his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, the former Carol June McCoy in 1986; daughter, Tonya Lee King, on Oct. 15, 2004; a sister, Eileen Cooper; and a brother, Edwin 'Bill' Wilson Hyland.

Masonic service in Ferguson Funeral Home with burial in Forest Grove Cemetery, Plain City, Ohio.
