Early this Friday morning, May 9, 1902, the people of Twin Bridges were shocked by the sad intelligence of the death of J. W. Brook, an old and highly respected citizen of this place. He left his home in apparent good health yesterday morning, spending the day in setting out trees at his ranch. At about 6 o'clock he complained of a pain in his arm and an hour later, while in conversation with the man who was helping him, he fell on his face and died. Mrs. Brook, who was at her home in town, was notified and immediately left for the ranch and the remains were brought to town at 4:30 this morning. Mr. Brook was born in southern Illinois April 29, 1837, and came to Montana in the spring of 1864. He engaged in various business pursuits and spent almost all of his time in Madison county, the past years in farming. In 1885 he was married to Miss Brown and the union was blessed by two bright children who now with their mother mourn the death of the loving and devoted father and husband. For many years he had been a trustee of the state orphans' home, which office he has filled with credit to himself and to the satisfaction of all. The deceased counted his friends by the hundreds who admired his upright and honorable disposition. He will be missed, sadly missed, not only by the grief stricken wife and children whose home is now darkened by the absence of him whose every thought was for the happiness of of those so dear to him, but also by every man, women or child in the valley. We unite with them in extending to the bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy. Mr. Brook was a member of the Presbyterian church, but as the new pastor has not yet arrived Rev. Wiley Mountjoy will read the services of the dead. The funeral will take place from the family residence tomorrow, Saturday, at 10 o'clock. -- Twin Bridges Monitor.
Mr. Brook was well known by many of the residents of this city who were pained to learn of his death.

John W. Brook and Miss Eleanor Brown were married on March 12, 1885, at Somonauk, DeKalb County, Illinois.
