Kenneth Lyndon Bates died September 3, 2018 in Salt Lake City at the age of eighty-four.

He was born December 28, 1933 in Salt Lake City to Lyndon Royal Bates and Doris Whitehead. He married Carole Lee Gibbs on December 29, 1982.

Ken worked at Hill Air Force Base repairing jet engines and has always loved flying. He was a deputy for the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office for many years. He was an all-around handy man and painting contractor for over fifty years. Ken made friends wherever he went and loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Carole; sons, Brent (Yvette) and Jeff (Andrea); daughter, Kelli; eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Ken is preceded in death by his son, JJ; and daughter, Alicia.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., with a viewing one hour prior, on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Mountain View Memorial Estates Mortuary and Cemetery, 3115 East Bengal Boulevard (7800 South), Cottonwood Heights. Friends and family may visit at the same location on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
