Raymond Gene Howell, Sr., 76, retired Lab Analyst for Union Carbide and resident of Osage Trail, died Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Tommy Clark and Reverend Terry Peery officiating. Burial will follow in McCains Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials may be made to McCains Cumberland Presbyterian Church or McCains Cemetery, P.O. Box 29, Columbia, TN 38402, or the Alzheimer’s Association, 478 Craighead Street, Suite 22, Nashville, TN 37204. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born January 12, 1942 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Raymond Howell and the late Josephine Pullen Howell. He was a 1960 graduate of Columbia Central High School. An avid sports enthusiast, he played baseball for the Colt League, was a Player Agent for the Little League, coached Little League Baseball and PeeWee Basketball, big supporter of Columbia Central High School Basketball, and a huge University of Tennessee at Knoxville football and basketball fan. Mr. Howell was a former member of the Maury County School Board and a member of McCains Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder.

Survivors include his wife, whom he married August 15, 1964, Adgil Lorene Smith Howell of Columbia; son, Raymond Gene Howell, Jr. of Columbia; daughter, Tammy Morrow of Columbia; grandchildren, Elizabeth Morrow; and Parker Morrow both of Columbia; brothers, Don (Jane) Howell; Doug (Janice) Howell; Gary (Roxanne) Howell all of Columbia; sister-in-law, Wanda Howell of Alabama; several other brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces; and nephews; and special friends, Dawn and Scott Liggett; Ricky and Kay Damron; and Debbie and Johnny Massey.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Norman Howell.

Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers include Columbia Central High School Class of 1960, retired employees of Union Carbide, and past and present Elders of McCains Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
