Sally A. Thompson, age 79 of Monroe, died Friday, July 6th at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. She had been in poor health for two years.

Born June 22, 1939 in Toledo, Sally was the daughter of Stanley and Marjorie (Young) Truax. She married Dale C. Thompson on January 13, 1962 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monroe. He recently preceded Sally in death on May 31st.

Sally was best known as the Head Waitress at the former Drouillard’s Restaurant in LaSalle where she worked for 35 years. After the restaurant closed, Sally became a LPN after completing her studies in 1991 at the Toledo School of Practical Nursing. She then was employed for 12 years at the former Lake Park Rehabilitation facility in Sylvania, Ohio.

Sally was extremely talented in arts and crafts. Her hand-crafted porcelain dolls earned her several awards in various state competitions. She was also gifted in crocheting and pen & ink painting.

Sally is survived by four daughters: Pam (Roy) Cousino of Ida, Robin (Ron) Smith of Rosemount, Minnesota, Dawn (Dave) Williamson of Temperance, and Kelly (Earl) Orr of Dundee; two brothers, Roland Mettie of Monroe and Ervin (Dawn) Mettie of LaSalle; a sister, Jill Mettie of Port Charlotte, Florida; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Dale, Sally was preceded in death by her father Stanley, mother, Marjorie Mettie, and brother, William (Janice) Truax.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial celebration of Sally’s life that will be held from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5th at the Dundee V.F.W. Post. As fate would have it, Sally and Dale’s earthly cremated remains have been laid to rest together at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in accordance with their wishes.

Memorial donations in Sally’s memory are suggested to Dundee V.F.W. Post 6462 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
