Lydia was the 3rd of 6 children of Henry Yerian and his 1st wife, Eleanor McBride.
Lydia lived at home with her parents in the 1850 census at Washington Co., Ohio. She married William Ross, a neighbor's son, at Perry Co., Illinois, on February 28, 1856. They and their first son lived in Perry County in 1860. They moved to Iowa prior to 1864 where their second son was born. The Kansas census of 1865 and of 1875 show them at Cato, Crawford Co., Kansas, where another son and a daughter were born. By 1880 they were at Erving Township, Jewell Co., Kansas, where William homesteaded 160 acres. Lydia filed divorce papers against William in 1896 because of abandonment. She remarried to John Newcomb, a house painter, and they lived in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1900. By 1907 she was single again, calling herself "L. L. Newcomb." She lived at Cawker City, Mitchell Co., Kansas, until after 1915. The location of her death is given in the family Bible, but her burial is unknown.
