Mrs. Sarah L. Goforth, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. She was born in Newark, NJ on March 19, 1932 to the late Rosario and Mamie LaForte.
Mrs. Goforth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who treasured her family. Our mother was a great cook and she loved to bake beautiful cakes for her family to enjoy as they gathered around the table.
She also enjoyed traveling, sewing, and home decorating. She loved being a Realtor in Catawba County, worked as payroll clerk for various furniture companies and valued being a member of Highland Baptist Church, in Hickory.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of more than 46 years, James Wilson Goforth; her sister Margaret Delaura, brother Peter Laforte, brother Johnny Laforte, sister Carmela Quarno , sister Mary Canceleri and brother Sando Laforte.
Mrs. Goforth is survived by her son, James R. Goforth; daughters, Carolyn McLaughlin and husband, Wayne; Linda Watson and husband, Pete; and Cheryl Munday and husband, Ronny; grandchildren, Julie Morris; Mindy Goforth; Ashley Goforth; Allen Wayne McLaughlin, II; John McLaughlin; James McLaughlin; Courtney Lambert; Kelly Watson; Stephanie Watson; Hunter Munday, Charlie Munday and Madison Munday; great-grandchildren, Trenton; Annabelle; Jenna; Kate; Elijah; Allison; John Tyler; and Leigh Ann; and her loving companion Benny Dyson.
A celebration of Mrs. Goforth’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Entombment will immediately follow the service at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 prior to the service.
