Daniel R. Stevens, 91 of Mannington, passed away Monday, September 3, 2018 at the Fairmont Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 3, 1927, in Melbourne, Florida, a son of the late Lloyd Stevens and Jessie Straight Stevens.

He was employed as a coal miner having retired from Consolidated Coal Company’s Robinson Run Mine. He was a member of the UMWA Local 1501 in Shinnston, and Charles Milan American Legion #40.

He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater. He was also a gunsmith, liked gun trading, and enjoyed hunting. He was also the former owner and operator of Stevens’ Jewelry in Mannington.

Dan loved to help people, and served as a driver for cancer patients for many years.

Survivors include a daughter: Donna Shingleton of Flat Run; a granddaughter: Tonya Shingleton; and a longtime friend: David James of Metz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Hazel Campbell, Bertha Sponaugle, and Jean Stevens; and a brother: Charles Albert Stevens.

Friends may call at the Hutson Funeral Home, 500 E. Main St., Mannington on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 10 to 11 a.m. where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with Rev. Sherman Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow at the Viewpoint Cemetery in Rachel.
