Charles Harvey Crutchfield (1947 - 2018)

Just as he lived, Charles Harvey Crutchfield of Charlotte, NC, died quietly and peacefully in the early morning hours on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at his home. Charles was born on April 19, 1947, in Memphis, TN, to Charles Wade Crutchfield and Elizabeth Pearce Crutchfield. He and Jane Jackson Crutchfield were married on December 13, 1968.

After graduating from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1970, he worked for First Tennessee Bank in Memphis, and eventually worked with Northwestern Bank in Wilkesboro, NC, then First Union and Wachovia Banks in Charlotte. After retirement he worked at Harris Teeter Morrocroft, and often ran in to his "customers" while running errands.

Banking was his vocation, but his avocation was being a church musician. Charles was much loved by the choirs and churches he served as Organist/Choirmaster, including St. Paul's Episcopal, Wilkesboro, NC; St. John's Episcopal, Little Church on the Lane, and St. Andrew's Episcopal in Charlotte. He was a member of Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, Charlotte.

Charles is survived by his wife, Jane; his daughter, Elizabeth C. Williams and her husband, David, of High Point, NC; his son, Jeffrey S. Crutchfield of Charlotte; and granddaughters, Hannah and Rebecca Williams.

Memorial service will be Monday, February 5, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church.

Memorials may be sent to Holy Comforter Church (Alden Music Fund), 2701 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209, or Loaves and Fishes, 648-B Griffith Road, Charlotte, NC 28217.
