Sarah J. Reed, 91 of Greensburg, passed away on Saturday September 1, 2018 at Morning Breeze. Sarah was born on January 1, 1927 in Greensburg, the daughter of Raymond and Wilma (Herndon) McGee. Sarah was a 1944 graduate of Greensburg High School, she studied at Butler University and Franklin College, but in 1967 she graduated from Indiana University with her Bachelor's Degree in Education and then obtained her Master's Degree in 1971 also for IU.
Sarah taught for 21 years, primarily at Rosenmund Elementary School teaching 4th Grade. She was a 60 + year member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday School, was a member of the Susanna Circle and served on numerous committees. Sarah also served on many boards and committees in the community including – Delta Kappa Gamma, Psi Iota Xi, Delta Delta Delta at Franklin College, Past President of the Retired Teachers Association of Decatur County and Eastern Star Lois Chapter where she was a Worthy Matron, a Grand Representative and a Past President of the Grand Representative Association and District Deputy #4. She enjoyed traveling, reading, crossword puzzles, playing Bridge and Solitaire and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her children – Douglas (Marcia) Reed of Westport, Jennifer (John) Mansur of Kokomo and William Reed of Conover, NC; and two grandchildren – Michael Mansur and Laura Mansur. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 for 3PM – 7PM at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11AM on Friday, September 7, 2018 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery.
