Marie Josephine Beecher Carlson, 77, passed on early Saturday morning September 1, 2018 at Birch Haven Assisted Living Facility. She fought ALS for the final two and a half years of her life. A special thanks to the family, friends, facility staff and nurses, that surrounded her with loving care during her final days.

Marie was born on January 16, 1941 in Ashland the son of Elmer and Erna (Deer) Beecher. Marie attended Ondossagon High School and graduated in 1959. She married Boyd W. Carlson on July 18, 1958 in Bessemer, Michigan. Together, they raised six children.

Marie was very active, and her interests included grannying, gardening, quilting, bird watching, scrap-booking, cribbage, mahjong, biking, walking, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing and feeding everyone who showed up at her table.

Marie kept books for Carlson Rentals, worked at Carlson Building Supplies one day a week, and faithfully baked goodies for the employees each week.

She is survived by; five children, Matthew (Deborah) Carlson of Claremore, Okla., Mary Kae (Mark) Pihle of Oulu, Kelly (Mark) Illick of Ashland, Allen Carlson of Ashland, and Jonathan (Rachel) Carlson of Blaine, Minn.; 12 grandchildren: Caleb, Jesse, Olivia, Ethan, Benjamin, Joshua, Levi, Rebekah, Elizabeth, Alyssa, Natalie, and Graham; eight great-grandchildren: Adelaide, Kellen, Chloe, Mathias, Owen, Levi, Renata, and Sophia; a brother, Les (Sandy) Beecher of Racine, Wisc., and a sister, Grace (Larry) Travis of Barksdale, Wisc.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on August 20, 2015; a son, Jeffrey, on January 4, 2001; and a granddaughter, Jenna.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Bible Fellowship in Washburn at 11AM, Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 with a visitation beginning at 10AM. A luncheon will be held at Grace Bible following the service, with burial afterward at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ashland.
