Alhough an invalid for many years, and oft seemingly at the portal of the grave, yet Mrs. Duncan McDiarmid has time and again rallied, but on Thursday morning last the final end came, and this much esteemed and patient lady passed away to her reward, mourned not only by her own but by hosts of friends who grew to love her for her many estimable virtues. Mrs. McDiarmid was born in Lanark village in April, 1852, her maiden name being Mary Maxwell Lamont, daughter of the late Joseph Lamont. In December, 1870, she married Mr. McDiarmid, and shortly afterwards settled in Carleton Place, which has been their home ever since. A family of four sons and seven daughters blessed their fireside, all of whom are living, but three, and all (with their wives or husbands) were present at the funeral. The sons are William J., London, Ont., Harry of Winnipeg, and Alex. D. of Carleton Place. The daughters - Mrs. Allan Dixon, Toronto; Mrs. R.P. Stott, Smiths Falls; Mrs. F. McKinnon, Ottawa; Mrs. W.R. Knox, town, and Miss Elsie in Toronto. A heart affection was the cause of death. The funeral took place Saturday afternoon to Dewar's cemetery and was largely attended. Rev. J.J. Monds conducted the services at the house and at the grave.
