The funeral was at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, from Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bejou, with the Rev. Clem Wagstrom officiating. Dorothy Goos was the organist and special music was by John Mattson. Interment was at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Mahnomen, with the Mattson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Serving as the pallbearers were Jason Keller, Cory Gjesvold, Cory Krabbenhoft, Scott Gjesvold, Todd Gjesvold, Jay Goodwin and Craig Gjesvold.
Darin Martin, son of James and Ramona Gjesvold Martin, was born in Elgin, N. D., on May 16, 1968. He moved with his family to Waubun in 1978, graduated from Waubun High School (Class of 1988) and–over the years–participated in local and state Special Olympics. He earned a gold medal and silver medal in bowling in the Special Olympics held in Connecticut in 1994.
Mr. Martin attended Bemidji Tech for a year, was employed at the Occupational Development Center (ODC) in Bemidji and went to work for Aramark Food Service at Bemidji State University during the school year in 1991.
During the summer months, he was employed at Camp Thunderbird, a language camp for world wide students, near Bemidji.
Surviving are his mother–Ramona Martin-Goodwin and her husband Al, Waubun, and a brother–Steve (Nan), Hawley. There are two nephews.
Preceding him in death was his father, who died in 1986.
