Daughter of Rev. Mordecai Boulware and Mary "Polly" Woolridge. Married James Adair Johnson on 04 JAN 1831 in Marion County, Missouri.

Died.
Mrs. Mary A. Johnson died at her late residence, in Marion county, Mo., on Sunday afternoon, 5th inst., at 3 o'clock and 15 minutes. She was in the 69th year of her age. The deceased was the widow of James A. Johnson, who died August 18th, 1875. She was born in Kentucky near Frankfort and was married to Mr. Johnson Jaunuary [sic] 4th, 1831, in Missouri, to which State she came in 1826. In the same year that she was married she settled with her husband on the farm where they together spent their lives and where now in the family grave yard they lie side by side. The fruits of the marriage were ten children, two sons and eight daughters. One son and three daughters are now living — one of the surviving daughters being Mrs. G. Frost, of this city. The maiden name of the deceased was Boulware. Two brothers survive her one of which is J. N. Boulware, of Clark county, who has twice represented the county of his residence in the State legislature; the other is W. H. Boulware of Marion county. Mrs. Johnson was highly respected by all who knew her. Her children have lost a kind and loving mother; her neighbors an ever-willing friend and assistant in time of sickness, and the M. E. Church, South, a valuable and exemplary member. A few days previous to her death, in the presence pf her friends and children, whilst suffering with consumption, she signified her willingness to die, saying' she relied wholly and undoubtingly on the promises of Jesus. Her funeral was preached at her late residence on Monday, 6th inst., by Rev. Hawkins, of Palmyra, in the presence of many relatives and friends.

OBITUARY.
Johnson— We are pained to record the death of another of the early settlers of this country, in the person of the excellent Mrs. Mary E. Johnson, the much beloved widow of the late James A. Johnson, of this county. Deceased was born in 1813 in Franklin Co., Ky. She came with her father's family to Missouri in 1825. Was a sister of William Boulware, Esq., late sheriff of this county, and Newton Boulware, Esq., late a representative of Clark county in the General Assembly of this State. In 1831 she was married to Mr. Johnson, one of the purest men of his generation, and with him cheerfully shared the privations incident to pioneer life in this country. Some forty years ago, or perhaps more, she professed conversion and joined the Methodist church, lived in its fellowship and died in the full faith of a glorious immortality after years of bearing the cross, as expressed to her brother William, when death was grappling her heartstrings only a day or two before her departure, which occurred at her own quiet home on Sunday, the 5th inst. The good must die as well as the wicked, for sin hath entered into the world and so death hath passed upon all men. But as in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive, the Scriptures tell us, for Christ, the foundation of the Christian's hope, is the Savior of all men, in a general sense; but the Apostle tells us he is the especial Savior of them that believe, of whom the deceased was one. It was her delight to be numbered among the believers in Jesus, and her chief ambition was to honor his name. She is gathered as a ripened ear of the harvest for the Master s house above. The funeral services were performed by Rev. Mr. Hawkins, of Palmyra, and she sleeps on her own farm, side by side with those she loved, who bad gone before.
Who are these arrayed in white.
Brighter than the noonday sun,
Foremost of the sons of light
Nearest the eternal throne ?
These are they that bore the cross,
Nobly for their Master stood.
Suffered in his righteous cause.
Followers of our blessed Lord.
