Evelyn D. York, 97, of East Moline, formerly of Moline, passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at Hope Creek Care Center, where she was a resident.
Private family funeral services will be held. Interment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island County Animal Shelter or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Van Hoe Funeral Home in East Moline is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Oct. 8, 1920, in Rock Island, a daughter of Ralph and Marie Osborn Beasley. She married George Scherer in 1940, and raised three children together. She later married Edgar York in 1967. He preceded her in death in 2007.
Evelyn was an accomplished florist, and had a talent for sewing. She sewed well into her 90s. She retired after many years at Teske Garden Center in Moline, where she shared her knowledge and love of plants.
She is survived by her children, Richard Scherer, Moline, Carrol (Robert) Brandt, Bettendorf, and Barb (Hafez) Lorseyedi, Mission Viejo, Calif.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy (Roy) Quid, Sun City, Ariz.
She was also preceded in death by a special companion, Richard Raines.
