CAPE NEDDICK, Maine - Virginia W. "Jinny" Parsons, 96, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017. She was born August 28, 1920 in York, Maine a daughter of the late J. Russell and Elizabeth (Bragdon) Weare and graduated from York High School before attending Nasson College. She did her graduate work at Boston University, Harvard University and the University of New Hampshire. She worked at York High School for 40 years, 37 years as a teacher and 3 years as a guidance counselor. She was a former trustee of Old York Historical Society and York Public Library and a Trustee Emeritus of both. She was on the building committee for the York Library and was involved with the fundraising for the York Library and the Old York Historical Barn which is now named Virginia Weare Parsons Education Center.

She was a member of the York Hospital Auxiliary, the International Woman's Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Retired Teachers Association, the Museum of American Art, the Old York Garden Club, the York Chamber of Commerce, and was nominated as York Citizen of the Year.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years Robert P. Parsons; she leaves her nieces and nephews, Hal and Polly Stanwood, Kenneth and Kay Parsons, Linda and Duncan Carsons, Kenneth and Kay Parsons, Doug Reed, Sally and Gary Muslawski, John Parsons and friend Diane Maioriello, Vickie and Robert Rosenbaum, James and Chris Casey and her dear friends Mary and Jack MacLean of York Beach, ME; along with her devoted caregivers Rachael Angis, Caitlin Angis, Nancy Humphry and Jo Ann Yorke.

She was an important part of the York community and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, June 2nd in the First Parish Church, 180 York St., York, Maine. Memorial contributions may be made to the York Library or the American Cancer Society, Maine Chapter. Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Rd., York, Maine is directing arrangements.
