Vickie Gayle Criswell died early Monday, August 27, 2018 in the Concho Rehab and Nursing Home.
Vickie was born November 15, 1950 to her loving parents, Dalton and Katie Criswell of Andrews, Texas.
Vickie spent thirteen years being an only child and the “apple of their eye.” She rejoiced when they had a baby sister for her to love and enjoy...what a blessing when LaNae was born. Vickie enjoyed being the older sister, a good student and had many fond memories growing up in Andrews.
Vickie went on to attend college at West Texas State University, she pledged Delta Zeta and had great memories and much fun with her sorority sisters there. She received her BS degree in Mathematics Education. After graduation she went on to teach math at Temple High School and at Carrollton RL Turner HS. After several years of teaching, she accepted a position with South Life Insurance as a Programmer Trainee. She worked her way up to Advanced Senior Systems Analyst. It was there she met her husband Bart at ING. They moved to Atlanta, Georgia and she enjoyed many years in the corporate work place. They had a lovely home, and she enjoyed growing beautiful flowers and gardening. Her favorite hobbies were working in her flowerbeds, shopping... and she never met a shoe she didn’t like or so it always seemed.
It was while she lived in Georgia that she suffered a life-altering brain aneurysm and subsequent stroke. The recovery was slow, painful, and Vickie never enjoyed the full life that she had known and loved after the unfortunate health incident.
Following Vickie’s brain injury, she moved back to Texas. It was a time of change and adjustment. During this time, her beloved cats made the transition easier —She dearly loved her Siamese cats: Kozo, China and Bosco - they gave her much pleasure and enjoyment.
She spent her time on the computer, playing cards, continued to shop and she especially enjoyed playing the piano. Her music soothed her soul and brought her much comfort. She also enjoyed playing for fellow residents in later years as she lived in the Care Centers.
She is survived by her only sibling LaNae McClure, brother-in-law Bobby McClure of Sterling City, and nephew Garrett McClure of Forney Texas. She is survived by special friend Bart Jones.
We would like to thank the Concho Rehab and Nursing Home staff for the kind care that she received in her final years of life.
At this time, we are grateful that Vickie has left her failing earthly body behind to live gloriously in eternity—where she will know no more pain and suffering. Thanks be to God for healing in heaven.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the First United Methodist Church Pre-School program at PO Box 311, Sterling City, Texas 76951. Flowers will fade, wither and die, but we can instill faith and education and impact the children of our future.
