HERKIMER: Sandra L. "Sandy" Combs, 66, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at home with the love and support of her family by her side.
She was born July 11, 1947 at the Ilion Hospital, the daughter of the late Claude D. and Myrtle B. (Hadcox) Bunce. She was educated in West Winfield and Ilion Schools. She was married to Larry C. Combs in 1965 and later divorced. They had one son, William E. Combs. She was employed by the Village of Herkimer, retiring in 2013 after 26 years of service. Sandy loved her job, co-workers, and village employees.
Sandy's unique character warmed the hearts of many who came in contact with her. She was meticulous on any task she performed, whether home or at work. She was loved and respected by all.
Sandy wishes many thanks to a long-time friend, Joanne Honka of Herkimer.
Sandy is survived by her son, Billy and Kasey Jones of Maine; her grandchildren, Justin of Hartwick, NY and Katie of Montana; her brothers and sisters-in law, Dick and June Bunce of West Winfield, Fred and Donna Sterling of Cedar Lake, Curt and Dot Bunce of West Winfield, Ron and Betty Bunce of Frankfort; her sisters and brother-in-law, Shirley Sanders of Herkimer, Sharon and Joe Rolchigo of Frankfort and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Mort Edwards and a brother-in-law, Al Sanders.
IInterment will follow in Mohawk Cemetery, Columbia Street, Mohawk, where she will be laid to rest.
