Rebecca M. “Becky” Brooks, 71, of Ogallala passed away Saturday afternoon, September 1, 2018 at the Great Plains Health Hospital in North Platte.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the Lewellen United Methodist Church with Pastor Janie Freeman officiating. Burial will be in the Plum Creek Cemetery north of Lewellen.

Rebecca May Brooks was born May 28, 1947 in Oshkosh, Nebraska to Ray Albert and Elvera Elizabeth (Pierson) Brooks in the middle of a late spring blizzard. She attended school in Lewellen graduating from Lewellen Rural High School in 1965.

She received her degree for Elementary teaching from Chadron State College in 1970. Her first year of teaching was at a rural school near Brule. After a short break she began teaching first grade at Dix, Nebraska in 1972. Her teaching career spanned 40 years. She left her students with many fond memories. After she retired in 2011, she spent her time volunteering wherever she was needed in both the Garden and Keith County communities.

She loved reading Christian literature and spent many hours studying and memorizing scripture from the Bible. Becky enjoyed teaching children and would do her absolute best to help a struggling child succeed. Becky and her sister, Beulah enjoyed going to local assisted living and nursing homes and singing for the residents. Her greatest joy was helping anyone that she could.

Becky was a lifetime member of the Methodist church, volunteering many hours of her life to the church.

Rebecca is survived by her sister, Beulah Brooks of Ogallala, aunt, Bernice Pierson of North Platte; and many cousins scattered across the country.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and an older sister, Ruth.
