Mr. Barlow was born on August 2, 1930, in Itta Bena, to William Glenn Barlow and Josephine Fiume Barlow. He married Bobbye Sue Edwards on April 10, 1953, in Columbus, Mississippi. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
After attending Mississippi State, Raymond served in the US Army as an electrical lineman in the Korean War. Upon returning from his time in the service, he started Raymond Barlow Refrigeration which would later become Barlow Refrigeration, Inc. His youngest son, Dennis, was his partner in the family business that is still operating after nearly 65 years. His expertise in his profession earned him a seat on the board of the Municipal Energy Agency of Mississippi (MEAM).
Mr. Barlow was a devout member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Over the years, he was active in his community, serving on the Itta Bena Board of Aldermen and volunteering as a fireman at the Itta Bena Fire Department. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club and the Leflore County Civil Defense.
He is preceded in death by his wife Bobbye Sue Edwards Barlow, and his parents, William Glenn and Josephine Fiume Barlow.
Raymond is survived by his three children, Mike Barlow and wife, Liz, of Laurel, Donna Barlow Diggs and husband, Walt, of Acona, and Dennis Barlow and wife, Leslie, of Greenwood; nine grandchildren, Ashley B. Moore and husband, Marcus, Millie B. Adcock and husband, Brandon, Brett Barlow and wife, Haleigh, Michelle D. Winstead, Lauren D. Boling and husband, Dustin, Wyn Diggs and wife Katie, Dennis Barlow, Jr. and wife, Kristy, Brister Barlow and wife, Kalley, and Mary Lawson Barlow and fiancé, Jason Rocconi; nineteen great grandchildren; and very special friends, Mrs. Betty Harris and James Jackson.
Pallbearers will be Richie Fulgham, David Kelly, John Muse, Ral Prestidge, George Saunders, and Vonzelle Self.
