On June 18, 1921 she was married to Fred Brandes in Payette, Idaho by a minister, Rev. Thomas Ashworth. They were blessed with at least three children.

They moved to Omaha, Nebraska. From at least 1930-1940 they were living at 1111 51st Street in Omaha. Fred was a bookkeeper for a wholesale heavy hardware company, and supported the family even though he had an 8th grade education. Their children were all in school in 1940.
