September 16, 1939 - August 30, 2018

Norman Wesley Cox, beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away after a long illness on August 30, 2018. Born September 16, 1939 in Dallas, Texas, he moved to Houston in 1966. He is survived by his children, Leonard Cox, of Cypress, Kelle Cox Ruden and her husband, Jeffrey of Westport, CT, his grandson Travis Cox of Cypress, his girlfriend Lynda Cox of Missouri City, his nephews, niece and their families: Todd Earnhart of Houston, Chris Cox of Leander, Lance Jackson of Rockwall, Gloria Woppman of Plano and sister-in-law Nancy Cox of Leander along with many cousins in East Texas. His parents Evelyn Gober Cox and Louis Wesley Cox and his siblings Carol Cox Earnhart and Charles Cox predecease him.

Norman was a respected member of the Houston building industry as an expert in paint and wallcovering. A long-time employee of R&M Services, he was asked by the state department to make a special trip to Columbia to work at the US Embassy and teach local workers. He worked on a diverse array of projects in the Houston area including Lakewood Church and further afield in Martha's Vineyard and Washington, DC. He was a member of Elks Lodge 151 and served as an officer and trustee. A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas (1958), where he played varsity football as a halfback with two letters, he held a Junior High track record that was unchallenged for over 20 years. He attended Kilgore College where he survived a dance performance with Gussie Davis and the Rangerettes. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, a charter member of the Fondren Park Expat Dinner Club, a golfer, a Houston Oilers fan until he became a Houston Texans fan, a history buff, a card and domino player and a lover of classic western films. Beloved by his family and his many friends, his greatest passion in his later years was proudly attending his grandson's sporting events. He will be interred with his parents and grandparents at Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas in a graveside service on September 15 at 10am. A celebration of his life will be held at Elks Lodge 151 in Stafford on September 16 at 11am.
