Gladys W. Barker, age 95, of Vernal, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 30, 1923 in Vernal to goodly parents Lorenzo (Ren) Watkins and Jennie Marie Kolb.

Gladys married Kenneth Samuel Barker on June 4, 1941. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on December 10, 1953.

Ken passed away on May 23, 1996.

Mother had a long, wonderful life filled with happiness and some tears.

Her fondest love beside Ken was family history and temple work. She spent 30 years researching her ancestors and helping others to find theirs.

Mom has a beautiful collection of Eagles - all sizes, a collection of salt and pepper shakers from all her and Ken's travels.

Mom is such a talented woman. She could crochet and quilt with perfection.

She had a soft heart for pigeons. She and the grandchildren made sure they didn't go hungry and all 50 of them were waiting to be fed each morning.

In her later years she enjoyed her children taking her for a nice long ride. She loved the drive to the mountains to look for deer.

We will miss her dearly but we find comfort and strength in knowing she is with our Heavenly Father and reunited with her loving husband.

Mom is survived by her children: Terry (Aleen) Barker, Bryce (Carol Jean) Barker, Monte (LuAnne) Barker, Kay (Mac) Atwood, and Sue (Reid) Cook of Vernal. Her sisters Bessy (Tom) Owens of Florida, Shirley (Delma) Watkins and Winona Walker of Vernal. Mom has 60 grandchildren, 177 great-grandchildren, and 40 great-great-grandchildren, a total posterity of 287.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 11AM at the Ashley Creek Ward Chapel (4080 South 2500 East).

A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8PM at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home (410 North 800 West) and Thursday 9:45-10:45AM at the church.

Interment will be held at the Dry Fork Cemetery.

We appreciate all the love and condolences shown to our family. Online condolences may be shared at www.ashleyvalleyfuneralhome.com
