Elmer served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. A member of the 375th Air Wing, he was a radio operator on B-29 aircraft.
He worked for 17 years at the Magnetics plant in East Butler and then he worked for 26 years as a quality assurance representative for the U.S. Government, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Coylesville.
As a child, Elmer grew up singing in the Boys’ Choir of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler.
He moved on to the St. Peter’s Men’s Choir, eventually spending a total of 50 years singing in St. Peter Church.
He was very active in sports.
Elmer was a life member of the R.C. Men’s Club.
He belonged to the Elks Lodge of Butler and the Elks Chorus, the Herman Volunteer Fire Company, and the Amateur Radio Club.
He is survived by three sons, one daughter, seven grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Pelliccione Green, who passed away April 19, 1984; a son, Timothy Green; two brothers; five sisters; and one grandson.
Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Avenue, Butler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler, with Rev. Ward Stakem, OFM Cap., officiating.
Military honors will be accorded at the church by VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 778, and American Legion Post 117.
Burial will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
