James Ratcliff Hoskins, 82, of Wade, MS passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Mobile Infirmary, Mobile, AL. Jim was born August 8, 1936 in McComb, MS to the late S.T. “Red” Hoskins and Clara R. Hoskins.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother; sister, Launa H. Smith; and wife, Caroline D. Hoskins.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Pamela C. Hoskins; sons, James R. (Michelle) Hoskins, Jr., Alfred F. Walchak, Jr., Kenneth S. (Micha) Hoskins, Peter C. (Andrea) Walchak, and W. Whitworth Hoskins; sister, Glenda H. Netterville; 10 grandchildren; along with nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
After serving as a paratrooper in the US Army 82nd Airborne division, he graduated from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA with a BS in Finance and remained an avid “fightn’ tiger” fan. He started his career with Standard Oil in New Orleans, LA and retired after 35 years of service from Chevron Pascagoula Refinery as Finance Manager.
He was appointed to serve on the Jackson County Port Authority by the governor for numerous terms as well as a member of the Noon Lions Club and various other civic organizations.
He served as a deacon at Wade Baptist Church but considered being a Gideon one of his greatest honors, and he loved visiting and speaking to other church congregations. He will be remembered as a kind, gentle man with a deep love for his family, SEC football, and politics. Jim was the “go to” guy on which candidate to choose when voting because he dedicated so much of his time to researching and speaking with candidates.
The visitation will be held at Wade Baptist Church on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Celebration of Life service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Brandon Rogers officiating. Jim will be laid to rest at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, MS at 3:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons: Trey Walchak, III, James Hoskins, III, and Peyton Walchak.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Gideons International, 50 Century Blvd., Nashville, TN 37214.
Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated, in Escatawpa/Moss Point, MS is in charge of arrangements.
