Nathan “Allen” Norton, 83, died August 30, 2018 at Kavanagh on 56th after a 20 year battle with cancer. He was born October 6, 1934.

In 1953, Allen graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines and attended Drake University majoring in accounting. He married Dixie McKenzie on August 24, 1956 in Newton, Iowa. Allen was employed 30 years with Braniff Airways and retired from the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance after 18 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family camping, gardening and mathematics. Allen was a long time member of Park Avenue Presbyterian Church serving as Elder, Deacon, Property Committee and Hand Bell Choir Member.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Emmett and Margaret (Zerwekh) Norton and his step-mother, Ruth (Norris) Norton.

Allen is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dixie; son, Robert Norton; daughter, Beverly Windust; sister, Barbara Matthews; granddaughters, Jessica Frye, Erica Windust and Jennifer Norton; five great-grandchildren; step-brothers, Terry Templeman and Donnie Zerwekh; step-sister, Roberta Jean Voss; several nieces and cousins; as well as many friends.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 5th at Park Avenue Presbyterian Church, 3120 SW 9th Street. Allen will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in loving memory of Allen.
