Clarence M. "Dick" Carr Jr., 73, of Canonsburg, unexpectedly went with the Lord Friday, October 21, 2011, in UPMC-Shadyside hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born February 4, 1938, in Canonsburg, the only son of the late Clarence M. Sr. and Margaret Kerner Carr.

Mr. Carr lived his entire life in Canonsburg, where he was a member of St. Patrick Church.

He was a graduate of Canonsburg High School Class of 1957 and served with the U.S. Army Reserve from 1960 through 1966.

Mr. Carr was a member of the American Legion Post 902 of Houston and Jefferson College Historical Society.

He had been in the masonry field for more than 50 years and was a member of Local 9 of Pittsburgh.

His hobbies included making items out of granite, brick and wood. He made numerous crosses in his lifetime, many of which he gave to family and friends, including those in front of St. Patrick Church, in honor of his late daughter. He was most proud of his angel lamps.

Above all, he was gentle, kind and faithful to all and was his family's hero, rock and committed provider.

On October 2, 1965, he married Donna Marie Stevens, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Margaret Susan Carr of Canonsburg and Mary Beth (J.D.) Verholtz of Strabane; a son, David Clarence (Chanin) Carr of Port Orange, Fla.; dearly loved grandsons Dylan and Matthew; two nieces, Lisa Stevens and Michelle Saunders; and a nephew, Robert Stevens. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a daughter, Jennifer Marie Carr, who passed away July 25, 2009; a brother-in-law, Ronald Stevens; and a nephew, Raymond Stevens.

He also leaves behind his devoted companion "Schnapps."

At the request of the deceased, private family visitation will be held at Salandra Funeral Service Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/ supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745- 8120, where a blessing service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 26. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Patrick Church, Canonsburg. Interment will follow in Oak Spring Cemetery.

Memorial contributions should be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678.
