(7 March 1931 obituary): PASTOR FOR 43 YEARS IN HAWAII PASSES AT HILO: Rev. Charles N. Kamakawiwoole Dies From Paralysis Due To Accident -- HILO, Hawaii; March 7: The Rev. Charles N. Kamakawiwoole, pastor of the Paauhau Protestant church, one of the oldest of ordained ministers, died at the Hilo hospital today after a paralytic stroke resulting from an automobile accident last Thursday. He was struck by a bus while crossing Waianuenue Ave. in Hilo. The Rev. Mr. Kamakawiwoole was born at Kohala, March 21, 1850. and attended Hilo Boarding School and the school of ministry conducted at Honolulu under the auspices of the Hawaiian Board of Missions. He was ordained a minister 43 years ago and came to Hamakua, remaining on this island ever since. He celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary last Monday. He is survived by the widow and the following children: William Kamakawiwoole of Hilo; Mrs. Mariam Richards, Honolulu; Mrs. William Payne and Mrs. Emil Osorio, Hilo; Mrs. Thomas Tanaka P. Reynold, Hamakua; and Lucila Kamakawowoole, San Francisco. The funeral was held today, with the Rev. John P. Erdman of Honolulu officiating. The services were j held in the Haili church, with burial in Homelani cemetery.
