Martha Webb Gregory November 17, 1941- June 6, 2018 Columbus, Georgia-
A cursory glance at Martha Webb Gregory's home tells you two things: she loved her family and she loved art. In that order. Paintings and photographs of her beloved son Tim, from childhood through adolescence, college, marriage, and now fatherhood abound in her home. Every surface and wall display photographs documenting the countless occasions for love and laughter with Martha and her friends, of Tim and his wife Erin, and of their beautiful children, McCall and Lizzie. And the art – eclectic, neat, funky, beautiful, traditional, contemporary – it's all there. Paintings, etchings, drawings, many by Martha herself as she discovered her own talent for painting later in life. Her home is filled with those, plus vintage pottery and other found objects creatively repurposed into beautiful furniture and accessories. Martha was 76 years young when she died quietly at her home in Columbus, GA on June 6th. For some that may sound cliché, but for those who knew and loved Martha, it's the perfect description. She both embraced and defied aging in ways that other women (and men) might envy. She had style, taste, and a discerning eye1for joining colors and textures, all of which she used with great skill in her interior design business, which was an encore to her administrative career with the City of Columbus. As further testament to her vitality, curiosity, and ever-expanding list of accomplishments, she was working toward her BFA from Columbus State University, making honor roll every semester. She had just returned from a month-long study-abroad excursion to Italy in May 2017 when she became ill. Sadly she was unable to complete her art studies after a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Martha fought the disease for eight months with courage, determination and grace. Martha was born on November 17th, 1941 in Phenix City, Alabama to James Edwin and Edna Folk Webb. Her only living sibling is her older sister, Sybil Webb Wilson (Jud Wilson, deceased) of Montgomery, AL. Among those continuing to let her light shine through their endless love and connection are her son Timothy George Gregory, Jr. and his wife Erin, their daughters McCall and Lizzie, a niece, several nephews, and countless friends.
