Granny, as she was affectionately known as to almost everyone, was born July 1, 1925, in Burlington, NC to Vernon Elton Lucas and Vallie Yates Lucas. She loved square dancing, sewing, writing, and was an avid reader. She also loved volunteering at LifePath Hospice reading the Bible (which she studied devotedly) to the patients at the Hospice House.
She was predeceased by her parents, two loving husbands: William Robert Craven and Henry Van McLaughlin, and her daughter and son-in-law: Susan Craven McDermott and Jim McDermott. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Lewis and Patsy Craven, daughter and son-in-law Janice and Doug Kivett, and her sister Elaine Butler; grandchildren: Robert Craven (and wife Dianna), Molly Polk, Tracy Franklin (and husband Chris) and Katelyn Kivett; great-grandchildren: Emily and Paige Craven and Millie Franklin; stepchildren: Kathy Bullard, Tim, David and Billie McLaughlin; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 4 at Forest Lawn cemetery in Greensboro at 11 a.m. with a celebration of life gathering at the home of Janice and Doug Kivett following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to LifePath Hospice, 3010 W. Azeele Street, Tampa, FL 33609.
